It all started when…
I was a kid and my dad gave me my first camera. In my twenties, I started to develop an interest in documenting the world around me. Fifty years later I still enjoy “capturing the moment”. I have a broad interest in photographic subject matter. I love to travel and record the beautiful places I have visited. I love to examine and capture patterns in nature. Most of all, I love to tell stories through my pictures.
In recent years I’ve experimented with less conventional presentation materials. I’ve put my images on glass and other translucent materials and backed them with gold and silver leaf. By adding these handmade touches to my images, they become truly one-of-a-kind. They do not translate well to viewing on a computer screen, but in person they are quite striking.
In the last 10 years I have had several solo exhibits of my work. I find it extremely satisfying to share a cohesive body of work publicly. I am currently exploring sharing my work in book format. I am learning how to make custom books and showcasing a body of work. Book making is its own art form and I’m enjoying the hands-on aspect of book making very much.
On a personal note…
I live in southwest Michigan off the coast of Lake Michigan. The area is filled with orchards and vineyards. Each season is distinct and creates a natural rhythm for my life. Until I retired in 2000, I lived in Detroit and embraced the entire urban experience. My days are quieter now allowing me to explore my creative side. I share this little corner of paradise with my husband Mike, and several hummingbirds, orioles and an occasional fox named Vickie.
